About Brainport Academy

We are the central hub in the Brainport region for learning and development in the semiconductor sector. We are not a school, but a connecting platform. We bring together people, training programmes and labour market demand to facilitate the growth of the semiconductor sector in the Brainport region.

As a central platform, we provide insight, an overview and guidance on training and talent issues. On the one hand, we help organisations find the right talent more quickly. On the other hand, we support people in making future-oriented choices and guide them through retraining and upskilling programmes towards employment in the semiconductor sector. In doing so, we contribute to the strong talent pipeline needed for the sector to make the leap in scale.

Brainport Academy is part of the National Microchip Talent Strengthening Plan

Brainport Academy is part of the National Microchip Talent Strengthening Plan. Under this plan, central government, the regions and partners are working together to tackle the shortage of technical talent and maintain the Netherlands’ strength in semiconductors and technology. The plan focuses on strengthening the Netherlands’ economic potential and improving the business climate for the sector. To this end, there is an expected need for 38,000 additional technically trained professionals in the Netherlands by 2030. Of this total demand for labour, approximately 70 per cent is concentrated in the Brainport region.

The approach is organised regionally across four high-tech regions: Twente, Groningen, Delft and Brainport Eindhoven. Each region has its own focus, but they work closely together to achieve the shared objective.

The Strengthening Plan comprises three action lines

    • Action Line 1: Expanding and making technical education more flexible (including new learning pathways and hybrid learning environments) | Download Action Line 1
    • Action Line 2: Increasing intake, progression and graduation rates through better alignment between education and the labour market | Download Action Line 2
    • Action Line 3: Developing reskilling and further training programmes via Brainport Academy | Download Action Line 3

    Initiators

Brainport Academy is an initiative launched by educational institutions, labour market regions and Brainport Development. Together, we are working towards a single goal: to retrain and upskill thousands of people over the next five years for a future in the semiconductor industry.

    Accelerating through Collaboration

We believe that sustainable economic growth is only possible when the education sector, government and the business community work together systematically on talent development. We are therefore collaborating with our network to develop a forward-looking approach. Our aim is to overcome the fragmentation of initiatives in the market and to consolidate collaboration. To this end, we are working closely with, amongst others:

    • Semiconductor companies and suppliers in the Brainport region, such as ASML, VDL, KMWE, Raith, FMI, Sioux and many more.
    • Covenant partners Curio, Gilde Opleidingen, Koning Willem I College, Sint Lucas, Yonder, Yuverta, Avans University of Applied Sciences, HAN University of Applied Sciences and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.
    • Private training providers such as Mikrocentrum
    • Industry organisations such as FME and Metaalunie
    • Brainport Industries College
    • ChipNL Competence Centre
    • The regions of Twente, Delft and Groningen, which are also working on the challenge of securing talent for the semiconductor sector.

We are constantly expanding our network with new partners. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us. We would be happy to explore the possibilities.
